To give context for this review, I have an undergraduate degree in mathematics, am nearly done with a master's in the same subject, and have nearly a decade of experience in a technical field. I believe this is one of the lesser quality texts that I have encountered throughout my academic and professional career. I am roughly a month into using this text, and it takes me 4 or 5 times reading through a single paragraph to understand the author's attempts to describe simple concepts. Hopefully this comparison doesn't detract from the quality of the review, but the scenario descriptions are occasionally written in convoluted run-on sentences similar to Vizzini from "Princess Bride" trying to reason his way out of drinking iocane powder. Additionally, I do not like that the text requires you to consult an online reference for explanations of example problems, since the examples are often necessary to decipher the block text descriptions. The language/notation seems to vacillate back and forth between different skill levels, meaning that it lacks consistency and oversimplifies at some points and over-complicates at others. I will be stuck relying primarily on lecture notes and setting aside twice as much time as planned to slog through the assigned reading. Luckily I have a good professor, but if you have a difficult-to-follow professor to accompany this book or are looking for a stand-alone reference, I would seek out supplemental resources.

Don't use if you want a mathematical treatment of game theory. Osborne assumes almost no knowledge of math. His explanations are pretty verbose and convoluted. Maybe it would be more useful for undergrads that don't know much math, though I can't imagine grad students finding this text very useful.There is a partial solution manual available online, but it contains the solutions to mostly the easier questions, and the more difficult exercises do not have solutions. I'd imagine this would be difficult to use for self-study.

This book manages to teach game theory in depth while avoiding any mathematics beyond rudimentary calculus and set theory. It was used as the basis for an undergraduate course that I took, and none of the texts I've used as a graduate student can compare in terms of clarity. This is a book that takes its time, letting ideas sink in rather than abandoning students who don't grasp new concepts right away. The problems given are interesting, and many have clearly-written solutions available online.If you are looking for a more advanced text, then Ken Binmore's recent Playing for Real stands out above the crowd.

I bought this book as a required coursebook for a class on game theory. At first, I hated this book. There are no solutions to the exercises contained within the book, as another reviewer has noted. If you want to self-teach, you may struggle. However, after performing due diligence, I found that there exists online a pdf of solutions to most exercises within the book, available for free.I can not speak for whether this book is best in comparison to others, because I have not read others, nor would I have the in-depth knowledge to compare, as this is not my field.What I can tell you is that I have learned a lot from this book, but only once I found the self-published solutions manual from the author, available here:[...]If you buy this book, that's pretty necessary if you plan to go forward alone.

Too dry. I love technical books but am disappointed by how boring the author makes this material. The people using game theory are very interesting. Find something that incorporates it, this reads like a textbook.

Although other reviewers mentioned that this book is confusing, after spending more than 10 minutes trying to put in a delicate way, I am just going to say this book is not just confusing, it is just ****, sorry for the language, but maybe the publisher or author should have proof read this book before publishing it. Maybe it is just me but I don't see who is the potential audience of this book combining confusing language, with no flow of logic and no math. Even writing this review I have spent more than 20 minutes trying to understand how did the publisher gave this book a green light or why are the professors around the nation is using this book. Saying this would probably hurt the credibility of this review but this books just sucks, plain and simple, this textbook is a perfect example of how a textbook shouldn't be....

It such a great activity for me & my daughter. It de-stresses me and calms her , we both benefit from it.

I would say it is more on the 6+ age group but it has a variety of hardness level in each category.

Unhappy with this purchase! Pages are only one sided. I could have printed cuter images online for free and made my own book. The image on the cover of the book is really cute but that's where it ends. Super disappointed! Don't waste your money!

Purchased as a gift for Toys for Tots, so I won't get a reaction, but I thought it looked cool. I like that it says "for kids" and isn't gender-specific (assuming only girls can like unicorns!) as it seems a LOT of coloring books are.

These are age appropriate activities but they have only stuff printed on ones side of each sheet. That would be fine if they were designed to be torn out, but they aren’t.

I’m pretty disappointed in this activity book. The coloring pages are far too detailed with hundreds of tiny components, so it’s not really for the 4-8 age group. The word search words are also not age appropriate for 4-8.The dot to dots are pretty bad in that there’s no mystery in what you’re drawing. There’s no real consistency in the art style across the pages of the book. It looks like the took cheap stock images and put them in the book. So it’s not well designed, and also the pages are not perforated so you can’t tear them out to work on them individually. I wish I had bought something different.

Pages are one sided. Pictures to color look like they were made “fit to page” and stretched weird. The dot to dots are all straight lines. I wish I had read some of the reviews before falling for the cover.

This activity book is going to be the perfect gift for my unicorn obsessed niece. I like that regardless of the activity all of the pages can be used for colouring. Plus as she progresses through the pages there are more than enough activities to keep her busy and challenge her as her skill level increases.I am becoming increasingly fond of these books to give as gifts to my niece and nephews, they are fun. educational and most importantly for me, budget friendly.

Good book, well written.

The critic is right, it doesn't cover a lot of in depth stuff, but it's a great basic book talking about how these systems work. If you're new to fuel injection and need to know what all those sensors do and how they work, this is a good book. If you need info on plenum design, this book is way under your level.Still a great primer though.

First, this book is a bit out of date... 10 years old now. The author talks of many "current" technologies, but explanations and comparisons of the products are limited at best. There is a lot of emphasis on converting carburated engines to fuel injection, but only specific examples are given when it comes right down to it, leaving many people and possibilities out in the cold.For those wishing to derive their own fuel-injection systems, this may be a good starter book, but leaves the reader with more questions than answers. It looks at converting a large cross-section of cars and trucks in the case-studies section, but only gives a general overview of the processes, with no real technical data to back them up or explorations of other options, which would be very helpful.

For the "Do-It-Yourself" custom engine builder, this book is of little use. Unless you own a car with one of the EFI systems discussed within it's pages, you are out of luck. There is no talk of tuned plenum/runner design, scratch-built custom applications, or carb conversions. Even the mention of forced induction is merely in passing as another option to explore, but is not expounded upon. In short, if you've got a 5.0 Ford or a Chevy TPI this book is for you. Other folks should keep on walking.

This anthology has a wide variety of different playable character races to choose from that aren't available in other editions. I have looked everywhere for the Hoojib and now I have finally found it. It is also compatible with the D20 system or the D6 so you can enjoy it either way.

I ordered this book to help a friend who wanted to get into a Sci-Fi / Future based game as a way to incorporate more than just the standard Dungeons and Dragons Races. Having 100+ possible races to choose from should give plenty of options. Hopefully they will branch out into a completely different setting, now that they have an example of what awaits them.

This book provides a brief history, typical personality description, and a physical description for each race. You will also find a brief description of the alien's home world as well as all the information necessary to play the race as a character or NPC. There is art accompanying each race however, this artwork is the main reason that I cannot give it 5 stars. While the quality is good, in a few cases it is obvious that the artist did not read the physical description of the species.

I own a copy of this... and i own a copy of the Ultimate Alien Anthology. I can say that despite popular opinion... the smaller Alien Anthology is still something i use quite often. Why?Alien Anthology has several species that you could use, more than enough for any campaign that i would write. Granted i do like the larger selection the Ultimate Alien Anthology offers, the smaller version has more than enough for me and more than I'll probably ever use. It also has creatures, non playable species that the Ultimate Alien Anthology doesn't have. It also has guidelines on how to create your own creature and descriptions of creature skills and feats. Granted the Ultimate Alien Anthology has 180 species, pretige clases, new skills and feats, it doens't have predators, herd animals, vermin and scavangers.Don't misunderstand, the Ultimate AA is a very very good resource for any GM, right up there with the Arms and Equipment Guide. The Ultimate AA lists out the species like they do in the book, with personality desriptions, sample names, adventurer types and whether or not Force users exist among the species, which the Alien Anthology doesn't. But if you are running an adventure and need a preditorial cat, the Ultimate Alien anthology will tell you how to hunt one, which speices hunt them, which prestige class to get to tame then, feed them, hunt them, breed them... but won't tell you a thing actually telling you what a preditorial cat is. It has speices ranging from the Space Slug to the Vornskr. And there aren't any repeats either... those mentioned in the RCR are not in the AA, creatures mentioned in the Power of the Jedi, Darkside, NJO or other source books are not in the Alien anthology. So is it still worth getting? Yes. I use it more often than my Ultimate Alien anthology because it is smaller, easier to navigate, easier to read, has more variety (not just playable species) and still a large selection of playable species.If you are a GM you should own this and the Ultimate Alien Anthology. It maybe a marketing ploy, but it is still a vital piece of my campaign writing.

If I could describe the Alien Anthology in one word, it would be "utilitarian." Granted, there is a whole lot of information here about a wide range of races, most of which are suitable as PCs. There is also a nice section on creatures and creature creation which encompasses about 1/3 of the book (actually, I found this to be the most useful part).However, I walked away from this book feeling decidedly unimpressed. Perhaps it was the artwork and layout. The book is so neat and "clean" that it's practically sterile, and comes off feeling quite bland and uninspired. You definitely don't see the level of quality that was heaped on similar products such as the Dark Side Sourcebook or the Revised Rulebook.Furthermore, I was hoping to see much more attention devoted to species-specific feats, equipment, and prestige classes. There just isn't much of that to be found here.In short, it's my opinion that any potential buyer will be best off waiting for the release of the Ultimate Alien Anthology. The Ultimate book supposedly won't have any creatures, which may still prompt you to buy the original, but it promises to have a much more comprehensive list of races, gear, feats, and prestige classes.At first I was tempted to rate this book at a 2, but I'm going to give it a 3 because of the excellent creature section and because there actually is a lot of information to be found here. This book is definitely the 1987 Honda Civic of Wizard's Star Wars line- it gets you where you need to go, but it does so with a minimum of style and flair.

I ignored this book at first (I actually just started playing the RPG maybe a month ago). I purchased the Ultimate Alien Anthology sure it would have everything from the original plus more. I never even checked to see what was in the AA. To date I have the Revised Core Rulebook, the Ultimate Alien Anthology, the Dark Side Sourcebook, the Tatooine book, the Living Force, the Rebellion Era Sourcebook and the Core Planets Guide as well as the Outer Rim Guide.I was desperate to find the stats for a Gundark for an upcomming game (and quite upset they were not in any of the books). So I looked online, apparently the book they are in is this one. I've looked through it and I was stunned by the ammount of great content that I had missed out on. Sure a lot of it cam be found in other books, and there may be less species than I would like. Some might complain that the art is meh. But to me that doesn't matter because while it may not be super stylish, it was able to deliver some great content. I really think both the AA and the UAA are needed for any GM. Just my thoughts! But hey I'm a newbie to RP'ing so what do I know?

Jackie MacMullan has been a likable and well-respected sportswriter for many years, and considering her unique closeness to the NBA (and Boston sports in particular), I anticipated that this would be a definitive work on the often-celebrated Bird/Magic dynamic - a magnum opus if you will. Instead, I found it a fairly disorganized and pedestrian rehash of the same information that we already knew. I mean, it wasn't bad...it was very readable, but I can't think of anything that really distinguished it from the other basketball books I've read. At the end of the day, I don't think it's that the information or research was bad, it's really the lack of an elegant or entertaining writing style that limited this book. In contrast, Dan Shaughnessy's brand of cynical humor and storytelling is what made his first "Curse of the Bambino" such an entertaining read (as opposed to his follow-up "Reversing the Curse", in my opinion. The writing style is what makes the sports book - not the information. Perhaps that is why writing this type of book must be a great challenge for somebody like MacMullan - her likability is part of her identity (and brand), and that can be constraining when writing about people who engage you on that basis. Shaughnessy obviously does not operate within those constraints...

Plowed brought this book in a weekend. So many memories, passages to highlight, instances where I could remember exactly where I was. The book essentially covers 1979-2009. My life 1976-current day. So pretty fascinating to relive, and unique to me, the Pacers years w Bird the coach and executive. While the players rivalry in the 80s will highlight any Celtics or Laker fan experience, for this Pacer fan 1997-2005 were some of the best years of my life.Chapter 9 is incredibly moving covering Magic’s HIV announcement in 1991. As a 15 year old that didn’t like the Lakers, I really didn’t get the magnitude. The author captures this period vividly,in amazing detail, with remarkable behind the scenes accounts. Golly, I read that Chapter while walking on a treadmill at the gym, and had the damnedest time fighting back the tears.

Book definitely not an airball. Delivers and is not just an outsiders view. It's straight from the mouths of two of the greatest ever and the men who played against them. I don't know of any two other athletes that brought out the best in each other like Magic and Bird did. And it should be a blueprint on how the great ones should respect and treat each other: try to beat each other's brains out on the court, respect and emulate character off the court.

Really I had only modest expectations when I purchased this book as one of the Kindle daily deals. I've read many sports books on topics that are forced. Bird and Magic together? I really had no idea that they were so close. I learned through this book that their bond is legitimate and that made for a great book. The author was excellent and kept the story going. If you are like me and remember the NCAA championship battle between the two and the ensuing NBA finals meetings then I guarantee you will enjoy this book.

"When The Game Was Ours" provides an intimate look into the evolution of the relationship between Larry Bird and Earvin "Magic" Johnson. The book does a great job telling the story of how two men became bitter rivals and eventually close friends. I was relatively young when both men began their careers and wasn't privy to the impact they had on the NBA as a whole, so I especially enjoyed learning about the history of the NBA and how these two men changed it forever. The book is a very easy read and manages to balance the historical aspect with additional insights into both Bird and Magic's relationships with their teammates as well. Unfortunately the latter gets a bit too gossip column for me, and detracts from the overall quality of the book. My only other complaint would be the amount of missing time the book has, for example, while the book does go into detail about Magic's Hall of Fame induction ceremony, it leaves out Larry's entirely. All in all I really enjoyed the book and recommend it for fans of either man, their teams, or the NBA in general.

I love basketball and love Bird and Magic specifically. This book does a great job of telling the story about the NBA as a whole but through the lens of two of the men that elevated the game to new heights. It's an excellent read for anyone that loves basketball.

Fun read. I would suggest this book to anyone that is a fan of the NBA and its history, a fan of either of the title superstars, or anyone that enjoys biogrpahies.The stories and careers are woven together seamlessly and are entertaining. The Boston author does a fair job of representing each athlete equally and there is no detectable "East Coast Bias"Fun book that explores the careers of each athlete and offers insights into how they helped grow the game and how their legends' grew along side one another- how they were rivals and friends at the same time.

Excellent book, good stories about Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. I learned things about them both, that I simply didn't know. At the time this story was happening I lived in Indiana and was following Larry Bird at Indiana State. I loved the small school story, being from Indiana, it hit home. I was raised in a small town called Fortville, "Fortville Demons", this would be in the 50's, the population was about 2000, counting the cats & dogs. So, for me it was a great book, ending in the State Championship. Fun to read!
