About the AuthorsSheila and Jane have been colleagues and friends for… well, let’s just say a long time. As English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers, they worked together on lots of projects… and had lots of fun as they worked. A partnership was born! Together, Jane and Sheila have teaching credentials in several states and two continents. With years and years… and years… of experience (they just don’t want to count them all, ha!), they have taught ESL to little kids, big kids, university students, adults, company executives, and other teachers in the U.S. and Europe (both online and in regular classroom settings). Both Sheila and Jane have served as members of the New Jersey Department of Education Advisory Committee for ESL/Bilingual Education. They’ve facilitated online ESL training courses for teachers through the NJ DOE professional development program. Sheila has held several leadership positions scoring teacher candidate responses for an international testing company, and Jane has written ESL test questions and rated English as a Foreign Language exams for another internationally recognized testing company. (They teach, they test, they score!) They have won many awards for excellence in teaching, including two Teacher of the Year awards, and corporate citations for excellence. They’ve given numerous presentations and have written curriculum and syllabi for diverse ESL populations. Add to this some fun teaching projects in Spanish, public speaking, drama, writing… and, we’re not kidding, even soccer skills and you’ve got two writers who know how to have a good time writing a book! Jane is now the Director of ESL Services for Emory College of Arts and Sciences in Atlanta, Georgia. Sheila is a lecturer in the English Language Program at the University of Pennsylvania, and continues to teach, write and consult in New Jersey and New York. It is like a vocabulary work book. I expect this book as good as "English The American Way" which has many dialogues(listening and speaking parts). The contents are boring not much supports from research just definitions of words and personal narrations about its own topics. The audio track is also boring because the introduction voice is boring, and also not much dynamics. It should change the title to appropriate one not "Celebrate The American Way".

I teach ESL to private students through a relocation company, and my student loves this book and the other one we're using, English the American Way: A Fun ESL Guide to Language & Culture in the U.S. w/Audio CD & MP3 (English as a Second Language Series)I recommend both books!

I received the book ahead of time. This is one if the best ESL books I've bought, the content is easy to understand and well distributed, lectures are interesting, and the most important its a very powerful tool for non ESL students!

This book can help you talk like a human being. It's easy to read and taught me a lot of REAL everyday English! I love this series so much! Hope to see more works from the two lovely authors!

This textbook is fantastic! There is a good mixture of cultural readings, idioms, and vocabulary which connects directly to contemporary American culture.

This book is wonderful for teaching ESL to students who already know English but want more practice and to know more about America. I prefer the way English the American Way is written with vocabulary words throughout the lesson and not all at the end.

A remarkably clever, intelligent, and engaging guide for the ESL student. Should be on the shelf with its equally valuable predecessor volume. Highly recommended for both ESL programs and the individual student.

This is barely more than a pamphlet, about 20 pages. There is also very little usable information. Very general statements like "You should learn how to cook." Was expecting a lot more, like how to fish in different areas, clean and prepare. Suggested meals, how to eat healthy with minimal refrigeration, how to stow to maximize space. Thought there would be pictures of interiors of Cats and different ways to organize. There's not a single picture. No real usable safety or shelter info. No real details about concerns of different areas where piracy is prevalent nor any strategies. This author has made me consider if I should go into the business of righting overly simplistic and general pamphlets with not much more than opinions on how fun it is to be on a boat and sell them as "Books."

This isn't really worth even the low price paid. Nothing elaborates on catamarans in particular; just general things about living aboard which would apply to any boat. And an intelligent Google search would get you pretty much everything this book has to offer.Money better spent? Get Gavin leSueur's books....

Absolutely nothing of any practical use. Just an appeal to turn tree-huger vegan. I mean really bad and the whole book read in 15 minutes. Unfortunately I can't give it negative stars.. I don't think I've ever read a book (before this) that left me feeling mugged.

What a ripoff. Not much money but a total waste of fifteen minutes. Too general "you need food and water" . Not what I was looking for.

Kinda disappointed as to the content was literally a 20-30 minute read. Not much substance, nor value.

ZERO STARS IF COULD RATE ITPublisher/Printer royally screwed the pooch on this one.... literally.Catamaran Living cover, but a childrens book called A Puppy Named Georgia on the inside for 22 pages.Catamaran Living starts at page 15 and is worthless.

Very thorough history of a military unit which deserves to be more widely known. Writing is not technical instead very very readable...

The story of the illustrious 31st Infantry Regiment has finally been told in a well written and very engaging manner in one compendium. This book tells the 102 year story of a infantry unit unlike any other in the US Army, and in doing so, it brings to light important aspects, many of which have been forgotten, of the nation's history.Constituted in 1916, the 31st was primarily based in the Philippines and was initially involved in little remembered conflicts, fighting Bolsheviks, White Russians in Siberia and protecting the International Settlement in Shanghai. With the Japanese attack and the outbreak of WWII, the unit, stationed in Manila, was in the bloody mix from Day One until war's end, fighting heroically in the Battle of Bataan, and then undergoing the Bataan Death March, followed by 3 and half more years of privation and depravity in Japanese POW camps, Hell Ships and as "worker ants" of the Imperial Emperor and Japanese Industrialists. No other US Army infantry unit suffered during the war as much as did the 31st. I can go on and on about 31st's accomplishments, but suffice to say that it has been in the thick of things in America's conflicts such as Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afganistan since General MacArthur re-constituted it in 1946, all of which is clearly recounted in this compilation.While the glory and attention is often given other units, much of the hard fighting was actually done by the 31st without fanfare. This volume does us a service by telling "the rest of the story". It is not overly technical, without ignoring tactics and details, and can be read and enjoyed by the layman and the military history buff alike. I found this book enjoyable, engrossing and challenging. The numerous and well selected photos are important additions.In summary, "The 31st Infantry Regiment: A History of American's Foreign Legion in Peace and War" is a long overdue, well-written and -constructed volume that I highly recommend.

Great edition to the written history of the U.S. Army! Fundamentally this books highlights the frontline Soldiers view of American military history for a 100 year span. Generally, units are studied though specific conflicts and eras, but what this books provides is a view of a single U.S. Army Regiment’s service over a hundred year period. From little known expeditions like those at the early part of the 20th century in Siberia and Shanghai to the major combat of the early Second World War, Korea and Vietnam and on into the modern battlefields of 21st century in Afghanistan and Iraq of today, the 31st Infantry Regiment has experience them all. This book captures the breath and depth of the role U.S. Army infantrymen have been asked to fill over the years. Although we at times think humanitarian assistance in conflict zones or training of indigenous forces is a new role, this history illustrates how the U.S. Army has been doing this for over 100 years. The concentration on a single regiment, the 31st Infantry Regiment provides a meaningful way to see how the role of the U.S. Army was implemented through the years and various organizational changes, while also providing a personal and readable history. I commend the authors on capturing the history of this unique regiment, while also providing a readable history of the American Soldier.

I read the storied history of this great Regiment with the perspective of a retired career Army officer. I have served or crossed paths with several of the authors and contributors, including General Barry McCaffrey, who wrote the Foreword. The Afterword author, General Stephen Townsend, has played an enormous role in the current development of the Regiment. The contributions of these senior officers were enhanced by the painstaking work of soldier-scholars Karl Lowe, Jim Simms and Grady Smith. Of special interest was the section devoted to Vietnam and Cambodia, progressing into the current 10th Mountain Division Era. These authors lived the history of the Regiment, slogging through the jungles and rice paddies of Vietnam—a dynamic part of the unit’s history. The background of the authors as combat leaders lends fidelity and credibility to the publication. They were able to portray the history, development and gallantry of the Regiment from a small unit leader’s viewpoint against a backdrop of global strategy. The technique of recording this history through the eyes of such gallant warriors enhances the rich history of the unit. If you are a Hamer player or fan this is a must have book for your guitar library or on your coffee table. Well written and very accessible - gorgeous photos with tons of detail - help your friends understand why you play Hamer guitars. This book will essentially validate every reason you've ever loved a Hamer for and then some. Great Job Steve.

A great book if you love Hamer guitars! I only wish there were even more pictures of the different models....but then I'm a guitar addict.

I dont think this effort to detail the Guitars and the (high level) story of the company could have been told any better. Steve and his brother countinue their commendable effort via social media to keep the Hamer line alive despite the fact that Hamer as a retail line is not currenty in production.

I am not much of a reader but owning a few Hamer guitar made me want this book. Great story and awesome pictures of some great guitars and the advertising. I did read the book and enjoyed it. Pictures of every model of the guitars they produced made me want more Hamer guitars. Maybe I'll hit the lottery someday! Until then I'll enjoy the ones I own and this beautiful book.

A training manual written in the form of a story, the book: 'SEVEN TAOIST MASTERS: A Folk Novel of China' (c. 1990) translated by Eva Wong, introduced the reader to a blend of myth and history to both entertain and teach, in the form of lectures, the Taoist philosophy of Wang Ch'ung-yang and Ch'iu Ch'ang-ch'un. History had recorded that the disciple "Ch'iu Ch'ang-ch'un was befriended by Kublai Khan and was appointed court high priest during the reign of the first Yu'an Emporer" (p.xvii). And Wang Ch'ung-yang lived during the Sung (1127-1279) and Yu'an (1271-1368) dynasties.Wang Ch'ang-yang (the rebirth of yang, or the rejuvenation of mind & body) was regarded as one of the greatest patriarchs of the school of True Reality (or the school of Complete Reality) and his students, the seven Taoist masters, were of the Northern School of Taoism, that branch of Taoism which advocates the 'singular path', where enlightenment and immortality are achieved through meditation and chi-kung exercises, it is the closest to Buddhism and Ch'an meditation of the Taoist sects. Ch'iu Ch'ang-ch'un, one of the seven masters, founded the Lung-men (Dragon Gate)sect of Taoism.SEVEN TAOIST MASTERS presentd a mix of myth and history in the most appealing way to the reader conforming to the Taoist pedagogy of story telling to instruct as more accessible in an intuitive reading than as analytic reading of a text. The main character, Wang Ch'ung-yang, was approached by two immortals, Lu and Chung-li Ch'uan, dressed as beggars, who had to convert mortals into Taoist immortals before the flowering of the immortal peach so that the Empress of Heaven wouldn't have to eat it alone. While Buddhism emphasizes reincarnation, Taoism strives for immortality, by means of internal alchemy, the actual transformation of body & soul through various Taoist efforts and personal sacrifices of the apprentice.So in the SEVEN TAOIST MASTERS, the experiences of Wang Ch'ung-yang are used as a vehicle to describe the attitudes and situations for Taoist training and the obstacles usually encountered on the road to enlightenment. The seven Taoist masters each represent seven different approaches to the Tao, and each master must negotiate an obstacle in their own way on the path to enlightenment. In this particular theology of Taoism is the belief that destiny can be changed by the actions of people, reward and retribution will be given according to one's behaviour.The book, SEVEN TAOIST MASTERS, contained a number of typographical and grammatical errors, such as "propserous" (p. 89), and "emerge" for merge throughout the work, and a number of ancient Chinese woodblock illustrations; yet overall, this is an excellent introduction to the Northern School of Taoism using a primer originally written for the training of Taoists priests. The Greatest spiritual Movie ever made has not yet been made. Come on, aspiring screenwriters! This one is a hit! I've loved this book for years. and would love to see it on the big screen. Especially the moment Chiu Chang Chun offers his head to the police officers he has carried across the rushing river... and alas, one of the men has dropped the bandit's head he was taking to the Court. The story is so compelling that one forgets its a spiritual teaching. That's what makes it so helpful and appealing.

I bought this book to use as ispiration and support in practices my basic Toaist meditations. I read this book so fast I had to slow myself down so that I got more out of it and make it last longer!Seven Taoist Masters is the story of a Taoist practitioner accomplishment of enlightenment/immortality and his leading seven disciples to this state. This book is great because it has teachings told in the form of a story making it very easy to incorporate personally. There are also direct teaching of masters given to disciples and many principles of the Tao are casually in the book allowing the reader to absorb the principles with little conscious effort. Fantastic book!One of my favorite parts of the book was seeing Buddhism and Taoist existing together in Chinese society and the interaction of various Taoist and Buddhist masters. As a student of Buddhism for many years I found many teachings of the Buddha included in this book in the Taoist context. Very informational, transformational, and FUN book for me!Like I said I couldn't put it down and was even reading to my girlfriend all the time, because I couldn't hold in my excitement with spiritual principles woven throughout the book. I am mailing the book to my mother now to (hopefully) share the growth, excitement, and inspiration I received from reading this. Enjoy!

This is an interesting and easy to read Taoist novel. There is a list of other books by her to read as well. Also I found out that she has a mediation retreat in Colorado where you can stay and sign up for classes. Fees are extremely modest and include meals.

Written by an unknown author, Seven Taoist Masters is the story of six men and one woman who overcome tremendous hardships on the journey to self-mastery. These characters and their teacher, Want Ch'ung-yang , are all historical figures who lived in the Southern Sung and Yuan dynasties.The novel brings to life the essentials of Taoist philosophy and practice, both through the instruction offered by Wang - on topics such as cultivation of mind and body, meditation techniques, and overcoming the four obstacles of anger, greed, lust, and drunkenness - and through the experience of characters.While all road eventually lead to the experience of the Tao, each individual's path is unique, as is the adventure of each master in this book.

Nice read and good story line. Keeps you into the story.

I enjoyed it very much. I am very involved in Taoist Tai Chi classes, and we are discussing this book at a book club meeting once a month. The leader of the book club is very knowledgeable and able to explain the deeper meaning behind the story.

Wonderful story, beautifully translated, and excellent introduction! You will not be disappointed in this purchase.
