I'd just like to say up front here that I only stumbled across this book by accident, but I'm as positive as I can be that it was the universe looking out for me. At the time I purchased the book it had only a couple of reviews, and, (forgive me Ronne fans) they were obviously written by people who already know and love her. That's awesome guys! The world needs you! However, I am a firm believer that a certain portion of any book's reviews should come from people who don't know the preexisting story, and so who won't be swayed by a preexisting opinion. Which is why I specifically refrained from researching the author, whom I never heard of before this book. And actually, as I sit here typing this review, I still haven't actually researched her. I LOVED the book!!! But I loved it enough that I want my opinion to be unbiased as possible, and I'd like it to stand on its own merits.And on that front, I don't even know what to say. It was my answer for everything! For quite some time now I've known I had a mission in life... something that's been given to me to do. It's something I love, and something I'm good at. But as time has worn on, and my progress toward building up all the back content I need for a launch (even a small one) has often screeched to a halt, I have repeatedly asked myself lately if I should just give up, get real, and go get a "grown up" job.I have no idea what my decision would have been had I not found this book, and I'm not even going to think about it. It had everything I needed... from the passionate plea for women everywhere to believe in themselves, and not be afraid of hard work, to the specifics on how to go about building a business or platform that will help you accomplish what you already know you are capable of doing. This book is for everyone. Literally EVERYONE! Women who have been working toward their goals for years now, and those just starting out, and it's for those who are wondering if they should keep going or not.Please, if you have a mission in life—a dream—and it's something you love, and you KNOW you're good at it, then don't give up, first. And then second, read this book!!! I don't believe in coincidence. I was sooooooooooo exited to receive this book. I cracked it open as soon as it arrived. Ronne B. Had been a fave of mine, role model, big sista and best friend in my head for two years now. So reading this book, I felt connected and learned so much. I haven’t finished but I’m intrigued and inspired. I think I need an audio version to play while I’m driving and running errands. Along with being good for those interested in Black Elk individually, it is also a great introduction for those, like myself, who previously knew nothing about the history of US - Plains Indians interactions throughout the latter half of the 19th century.

Joe Jackson has written an outstanding study of a subject worthy of such treatment. American history is full of people like people--influential, important, significant, and interesting; however, they are neglected or under-valued by scholars fixated on generals, presidents, and "titans" of business.

I have read most books about Black Elk and the Lakota People. This is a marvelous book.. I highly recommend it and have bought it and will buy more copies for friends. Pidamaya Wopila Tanka

This will be a difficult book to review as it is a multi-faceted work. At first glance it is a biography of a Sioux medicine man or holy man named Black Elk. It is also a history of the Sioux people during the last half of the 19th century and after the end of formal warfare with the whites and the tribe's confinement on reservations. It is also an introduction into Sioux culture and especially into their spirituality and mysticism. All of this comes to us in the words of Black Elk as he lived through and witnessed many of the major historical events involving the Sioux and was a highly regarded tribal holy man. What makes this book unusual is that most of this information was first published in a book written by John Neihardt in 1930 following a series of interviews Neihardt had with Black Elk. So in addition to all these other facets this book is about the writing of Neihardt's book.To begin with, while I rate this book at 3 stars which means to me that it was a good book and worth reading, I can't say that I enjoyed the read. In great part I found the book rather tedious and that was because of its focus on tribal religion and spirituality. Now I understand that this aspect was what made Neihardt's book, "Black Elk Speaks" so ground breaking when it was finally brought back into public attention in the '60's. However, if this book, and maybe Neihardt's as well, had used what Black Elk had told them to outline the foundations of tribal spiritualism and its rituals and tenets I could have found that interesting. For instance it is stated that the Sioux god is environmental and exists in the present while the white man's god exists in the future and promises great things in another life. The Indian god exists in the present world and is found in the wind, the earth, the plants, and all the animals and everything that happens is the result of his actions and intention. There are no coincidences in the Indian's existence in this world everything is the result of their god's action and needs to be observed and interpreted in order to divine the meaning. This I found interesting. However, what we are treated to is the spiritual life of one specific Sioux indian, Black Elk and we learn about the spiritual aspect of Sioux culture through his life and experiences. By doing this we learn more about this man than we do about his culture and I was bothered by this. My concern was that in the process of learning about the man we can't overlook normal human traits. Black Elk was born into a family of line of medicine men and was presumed by his family to carry on the family tradition so he was taught by his elders the things he would need to know as a medicine man. Black Elk, like most young men, was ambitious and wished to be admired and esteemed by his tribe. The normal way for a boy to acquire such esteem was by becoming an accomplished warrior. Unfortunately, Black Elk was not very big or athletic and therefore less than talented in those skills needed to be a good warrior. If he was to become an honored member of the tribe he needed another route and spirituality and his family tradition seemed the logical choice. So the details about his visions and dreams became, for me, suspect and the story of his life seems to fall in and out of this spirituality and even seems to become opportunistic. For this reason I would have preferred a general discussion of the religious aspects of the Sioux culture and not so much about how this culture was used in the life of a specific person.Now what I did like about this book was that part of the Sioux history that I have not read before, their life once confined to reservations. While the book did deal with the tribe's history before the end of hostilities and included the incidents of Sand Creek, Fetterman's Ambush, Little Big Horn, and Wounded Knee, this history has been treated with greater depth and detail in other works. This earlier history, however, did set the stage for the tragedy of reservation life and the degradation of the Sioux culture. This part of Indian history can easily provoke discussion and debate and this part of the book is what really saved it for me. I can understand the harsh treatment of Indians in the 19th century when memories of the hostilities were still fresh and the participants still alive but the treatment persisted into the 20th century with no real improvement. The very idea of the need for change doesn't even seem to exist until after Neihardt's book is published and read by a few people in positions to affect change. Another sad part of our history with Native Americans.The last hundred pages of the book continue the history of reservation life but also illustrates the process of creating "Black Elk Speaks". This part of the book is about the writing of Neihardt's book and what was involved and how that book was received and when and by whom. It also discusses the controversies that the book caused for Black Elk, his family, the author, and the religious personalities on the reservation. It was in this part of the book that the endearing message of Black Elk's visions are made more understandable and how they could and would affect his people. It is possible that as a young man Black Elk may have been the impressionable victim of spiritual suggestion or maybe he was just imaginative. It is also possible that what he reported to Neihardt was all true though Neihardt's mystical sympathies hardly made him an objective reporter. Nevertheless, the visions of Black Elk were published and they eventually started something of an Indian religious renaissance following WWII. So while I can't say this book was one of my favorites it was worth reading and maybe others will enjoy it more than I did. (le

This is an outstanding book! Black Elk participated in many events that are part of the mythos of the American West and the "idea" of America. He had a long life with some great moments, tragedy, hardship, and poverty through which he passed informed by his own visions, strong spirit and concern for the Lakota people in the modern world. I was impressed by Joe Jackson's research and his ability to tell the story, reveal little known and important elements, while not getting lost in extraneous sidelines.

Price was right, arrived right on time, and the book is in pretty good shape. The front cover was stained with what looked like drinking glass rings, which being a Sinatra fan I thought was a design choice but a day or two later realized they smudged off with a wet finger. Wasn't a big deal for me to wipe off, which means it wouldn't have been a big deal to do that before shipping. Only real complaint!

I just received my copy of this masterpiece.I thought it would be about 50 slick pages long with stuff I had already seen but I still couldn't pass up the opportunity to get all of my favorite Tank Girl artwork in one place.I have misplaced and replaced many of my old TG comics and this was my opportunity to fill in the blanks and get some bonus sketches.I didn't count the pages but it must be over 200 heavy weight paper slicks, hard bound, with a dust cover and hard slip case! It even appears to be hand signed (it came wrapped in cellophane so it had to be signed before packaging).The print is dense, much heavier than the comic books in the news stands. It looks like the UK only material is in here because there are dozens of pages I have never seen before.Get over the sticker shock because this thing is worth more than the retail price and I already see used copies available at over $150.00.I am a hard core TG fan and I would not give up my copy for signed original artwork. Not that I wouldn't want some but this book is by far the best thing Hewlett and Martin have put together in my opinion.Now I have a complete collection of artwork so I can really pick the best piece for my Tank Girl Tattoo. I've been waiting years for this.Thanks Alan and Jamie. If I was a billionaire, I'd send you pizza and beer for the rest of your lives!

This book was a huge eye opener for me. It made me take a closer look at things ie: diet, posture, breathing. Together with oesteopathy to correct my thoracic spine(my osteo had been saying for 12 months my thoracic spine wasn't right) and attention to essential fatty acids, amino acids and water, I a have no fatigue, no ibs, no headaches, no pain etc etc. this is essential reading for someone with CFS

Reading this book was a inestimable surprise for having a better brain: many easy exercises to get rid of neurologic toxins, I can’t wait to enjoy the after-effect

I liked the most that he explained why the lymph reverses direction and can reinfect the brain. Find this on page 80 + 120. I found this book very interesting. I hope more practitioners will study his technique and offer their services to the public.

Who would think your dentist would reccomend this. My dentist said he was so tired of doctors offering no real answers for autoimmune disorders.This may not be what is happening with each person, but we need to look outside the box. There are answers, we just haven't found our answer yet.

An interesting theory of the cause of chronic fatigue, and has enough details of the program to try with your own osteopath/massage therapist if you can't find someone in your area trained in the actual Perrin technique. Don't know if it works yet, though, but I'm trying it out.

I listened to Interview two times( Energyblueprints). Bought book yesterday.Dr Perrin has brains and common sense.But one thing isn't explained enough in interviews( energyblueprint).He called them "Toxins" in lymph. Build up of toxins near spine....Now we know that if you have cloged impaired liver (Heavy metals, chemicals, infections, MTHFR, methylation,sulphuration issues, missing nutritiens... etc), you have also cloged lymphatic system. Liver is cloged also " mechanically".....Liver bile is expensive for body to produce. We shouldn't forget that liver bile is after digestion reabsorbed/recirculated ( with toxins) up to 14-19 times if not carried away with fiber. Common sense will tell you that toxins going thru liver ( filter) will settle in areas with slower circulations, lower temperature, behind infections. It is same happening, as in build up of sediments in rivers behind the sharp curve. Slower speed. Because of toxicity, liver cells there "sauted in chemicals" can't produce good cholesterol whick body can use full. That cholesterol is very sticky and will clump together and start to impair flow. So called Intrahepatic cholesterol stones. Most gallstones are actually from Liver. Big stones can sometimes move and block duct of pancreas. And then become instanly diabetic. I was eating organic Raspberry's when that happened. Gheez. 10 minutes in sugar crash. Without insulin, you realize how sugar can be very toxic. Ok. Now abaut lymph. 10 years ago, I was taking long hot shower, and then at end took very cold one, something happened but i soon forget about. But that first night,me, usually good sleeper, could sleep only 4 hours. Next night only 2 hours. And so on. And it persisted afterwards. I observed that my right nostril is getting dry. Left was moist and normal. But this draines persisted and capilaries in nose sometimes easily open. I blamed it on everything else (infections, mad cov, marcons, blue cheese, pork, junk food, work...).Plenty of dollars and doctors to find out what is. Now i know that reverse hot/cold shower that i took, moved intrahepatic stone and slowly blocked one of lymph canals. And left nostril started to dry. And now when I hear that lymph is sucking sometimes in wrong direction? And test at home for Alzheimer's is to smell Peanut butter first with left then with right nostril?? Forget about detoxing brain first without first detoxing liver and lymph. Doctors are still willingly burning billions of dollars in wrong place.This is big. Very very big.

This book gives a very useful account of how those who suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME can improve their lives. Osteopathy, as all of us who have been fortunate enough to experience it know, is not just about backs. Osteopaths can successfully treat a very wide range of other problems and ailments, as this book proves. Raymond Perrin is to be congratulated on his excellent work with his patients.
