Now, don't get me wrong, I love Beatrix Potter and her stories. My mom gave them to me when I was little. So, when I had a little one of my own how could I resist? I got this book for his first birthday, but when I read it out loud I was disappointed. While the pictures turned out vibrant, it's a very cut-down story of the beloved Peter Rabbit with a chewed-up moralless rendition of the original story. C'mon guys, I totally understand you have to squeeze a story onto less pages for board books. But this was a sloppy way to go about it.

DO NOT ORDER THE PAPERBACK. I wish I had read the reviews, but I guess I was in a hurry. I thought this would be a decent rendition of the beloved children's book "The Tale of Peter Rabbit." This is a joke. It looks like someone photo-copied it. The images aren't even centered on the page. It's only a little bigger than the size of my iPhone. So sad. So sad that amazon would even allow this to be sold.

Is this a joke? Amazon you've failed me here! No way would this book ever be found in an actual store because no one would buy it if given the chance to see it in real life first. Tiny, so tiny in fact it's hard to turn the pages. Terrible quality overall, super thin pages, and horribly pixelated, faint images. The worst quality book I've ever bought hands down.

These books are just as I remember from my childhood. I hope my daughter gets as much enjoyment out of them as i did.Peter Rabbit is a story of a rambunctious little rabbit who does not listen to his mother. He goes on an adventure and nearly gets caught by the farmer. As he is running from the farmer he gets tangled up and loses his shoes and his jacked. He makes it back home and immediately get put to bed without supper.The illustrations are well done in this book. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it to my daughter.

The copy I got was terrible. It looks photocopied, or as if it was printed on a personal inkjet printer. It is vine with glue and hard to open.I just read that amazon reviews are not based on the actual product version, but on the story, so as another customer said, be careful when selecting which version to buy.

This is the second of the same baby book that I've bought. I thought about getting a different one for my second child for interests sake but I ultimately knew I would be disappointed with anything else (and so, probably, would they). This is a GREAT baby book! My search was long and hard. There are a lot of not great ones out there, and a lot of the more interesting ones aren't sweet and baby-themed enough. This is a throw-back, with Peter Rabbit, but it is also modern enough to look back on and be reminded of the baby's first year, and what those good-ole-days were really like. NOSTALGIA! I love that it's printed in Italy, instead of China; that it's made responsibly (you can read about that); that's it's such great quality - it will NEVER fall apart; that it's not silly and is pretty standard with firsts and a family tree and places for pictures of things that matter; that it has sweet, but not distracting, pictures (you can write right on top of them if you need the space); and that it expects reasonable amounts of time and effort from you but feels full and sufficient. It has a pocket in the back too, to store some things. Mostly it just doesn't annoy the ever-loving crap out of me, like most of the other's certainly would have.

A remake of the vintage Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit tales. This version of less than thirty pages does not match the original collection of Peter Rabbit tales, but it is a nice introduction to the lessons of Peter for younger children. It lacks the lyrical language and appears curt in a few sections. On the other hand, the essential story is present. Peter, unlike his siblings, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail, cannot avoid containing his curiosity and disobeying his mother. He soon finds himself being chased by Farmer McGregor facing a fate similar to his father. Peter is a clever fellow, but he has several narrow escapes. In the end, his siblings do seem to be properly rewarded, while he remains the black sheep of the family.The watercolor illustrations are not quite as muted and are more modern. They do an adequate job of portraying the action for young readers. I would recommend the book especially for preschoolers

What can I say? I'm a rabbit lover and have loved the tale of Peter Rabbit from childhood. This coloring book not only contains many nice printed pictures to color but also contains the story as well. The book's covers contain color images of several of the pictures that are available for coloring in case you may need some guidance. The images are what you would expect from the Beatrix Potter books so if your looking for a coloring book that is what you may remember as a child, this is it.I believe the pictures are pretty simple so that even some older children could color them. The backgrounds can be a little challenging since they seem to be a little less detail and so is open more to your imagination on how to fill in. Overall, I love this coloring book and am having fun with it.

Robert Hirsch's survey of the origins and evolution of photography, "Seizing the Light," is a welcome addition to the expanding study of the medium. In clear, insightful, and engaging prose, Hirsch unfolds photography's hit-or-miss birth which was rapidly followed by coherent technological developments almost at the speed of light. Hirsch makes us believe that photography was inevitable; the darling and necessary child of destiny wed to information theory. And Hirsch's treatment of early 20th century Modernist photography and the philosophy behind Pictorialism is excellent.As a primer for the invention of photography and its chemical underpinnings, "Seizing the Light" is as good as it can be. It falls a little short, however, in its treatment of contemporary photography. The book would have been better served by including a few in-depth surveys of important contemporary photographic projects in order to emphasize the centrality of this discipline in contemporary art history and postmodern theory which is heavily dependent on the nature of images and processes of image-making.

History can be boring, and dry. The book starts with, as one may expect, the dawn of photography. At first, I avoided this book, letting my reading for class pile up until midterms hit and SURPRISE! I found myself needing to read half of a textbook. It was that task that lead me to love this book. I sat and read it, which at first, was painful. Then as it drew on, I realized, that I was enjoying learning the roots of my passion, and that Hirsch wrote it in such a way that drew me in, and was actually entertaining. I got a 102% on that midterm, and I went on to buy a used copy of this book when I stumbled across it.

This textbook is a wealth of information. I had no idea the history of photography was so rich. You never really think much about the history of our technology, etc the way you do about the history of people or cultures as a whole. There are several pages of pictures in each chapter to accompany all of the writing, and each chapter ends with endnotes, citations and information about the text from the chapter. The writing is very organized. I have no complaints. It's a great textbook to learn from.

I'm enrolled in a basic photography history course at a community college. This is the textbook we were assigned to buy for the class. The book is well put together and full of great facts. The size is rather large but this allows for the many pictures and nice size text used in the book. The chapters flow well and the book is not hard to read. I am all around satisfied with the textbook. I also found out after purchasing it that it's available for digital download onto the Kindle. Some in my class have downloaded it and say they read it throught the day and can study on the go with the book in digital format.

This book was required for my photography history class. I couldn't of done my class without it! Very interesting and informative on the way photography has evolved over the years. I plan on reading this book over and over!

I got my product on time and a tracking number was provided for me to track the package.This is a great book to learn about the beginning of photography and even learn about photography alternative processes.Very recommendable for photographers.

I'd just like to say up front here that I only stumbled across this book by accident, but I'm as positive as I can be that it was the universe looking out for me. At the time I purchased the book it had only a couple of reviews, and, (forgive me Ronne fans) they were obviously written by people who already know and love her. That's awesome guys! However, I am a firm believer that a certain portion of any book's reviews should come from people who don't know the preexisting story, and so who won't be swayed by a preexisting opinion. Which is why I specifically refrained from researching the author, whom I never heard of before this book. And actually, as I sit here typing this review, I still haven't actually researched her. I LOVED the book!!! But I loved it enough that I want my opinion to be unbiased as possible, and I'd like it to stand on its own merits.And on that front, I don't even know what to say. It was my answer for everything! For quite some time now I've known I had a mission in life... something that's been given to me to do. It's something I love, and something I'm good at. But as time has worn on, and my progress toward building up all the back content I need for a launch (even a small one) has often screeched to a halt, I have repeatedly asked myself lately if I should just give up, get real, and go get a "grown up" job.I have no idea what my decision would have been had I not found this book, and I'm not even going to think about it. It had everything I needed... from the passionate plea for women everywhere to believe in themselves, and not be afraid of hard work, to the specifics on how to go about building a business or platform that will help you accomplish what you already know you are capable of doing. This book is for everyone. Literally EVERYONE! I follow Ronnie and I always root for the underdog. A good read for someone that may know nothing about utilizing Instagram for marketing purposes. For others, that are aware, it’s still fascinating to read about her story.

I also like the practical steps she gave to achieve ones entrepreneur goals on Instagram.I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to improve their marketing strategy on the gram. I gave it five stars because of the recommended strategies which are solid and require no additional assistance.

I was sooooooooooo exited to receive this book. I cracked it open as soon as it arrived. Ronne B. Had been a fave of mine, role model, big sista and best friend in my head for two years now. So reading this book, I felt connected and learned so much. I haven’t finished but I’m intrigued and inspired. I think I need an audio version to play while I’m driving and running errands. Along with being good for those interested in Black Elk individually, it is also a great introduction for those, like myself, who previously knew nothing about the history of US - Plains Indians interactions throughout the latter half of the 19th century.

Joe Jackson has written an outstanding study of a subject worthy of such treatment. American history is full of people like people--influential, important, significant, and interesting; however, they are neglected or under-valued by scholars fixated on generals, presidents, and "titans" of business.

This will be a difficult book to review as it is a multi-faceted work. At first glance it is a biography of a Sioux medicine man or holy man named Black Elk. It is also a history of the Sioux people during the last half of the 19th century and after the end of formal warfare with the whites and the tribe's confinement on reservations. It is also an introduction into Sioux culture and especially into their spirituality and mysticism. All of this comes to us in the words of Black Elk as he lived through and witnessed many of the major historical events involving the Sioux and was a highly regarded tribal holy man. What makes this book unusual is that most of this information was first published in a book written by John Neihardt in 1930 following a series of interviews Neihardt had with Black Elk. So in addition to all these other facets this book is about the writing of Neihardt's book.To begin with, while I rate this book at 3 stars which means to me that it was a good book and worth reading, I can't say that I enjoyed the read. In great part I found the book rather tedious and that was because of its focus on tribal religion and spirituality. Now I understand that this aspect was what made Neihardt's book, "Black Elk Speaks" so ground breaking when it was finally brought back into public attention in the '60's. However, if this book, and maybe Neihardt's as well, had used what Black Elk had told them to outline the foundations of tribal spiritualism and its rituals and tenets I could have found that interesting. For instance it is stated that the Sioux god is environmental and exists in the present while the white man's god exists in the future and promises great things in another life. The Indian god exists in the present world and is found in the wind, the earth, the plants, and all the animals and everything that happens is the result of his actions and intention. There are no coincidences in the Indian's existence in this world everything is the result of their god's action and needs to be observed and interpreted in order to divine the meaning. This I found interesting. However, what we are treated to is the spiritual life of one specific Sioux indian, Black Elk and we learn about the spiritual aspect of Sioux culture through his life and experiences. By doing this we learn more about this man than we do about his culture and I was bothered by this. My concern was that in the process of learning about the man we can't overlook normal human traits. Black Elk was born into a family of line of medicine men and was presumed by his family to carry on the family tradition so he was taught by his elders the things he would need to know as a medicine man. Black Elk, like most young men, was ambitious and wished to be admired and esteemed by his tribe. The normal way for a boy to acquire such esteem was by becoming an accomplished warrior. Unfortunately, Black Elk was not very big or athletic and therefore less than talented in those skills needed to be a good warrior. If he was to become an honored member of the tribe he needed another route and spirituality and his family tradition seemed the logical choice. So the details about his visions and dreams became, for me, suspect and the story of his life seems to fall in and out of this spirituality and even seems to become opportunistic. For this reason I would have preferred a general discussion of the religious aspects of the Sioux culture and not so much about how this culture was used in the life of a specific person.Now what I did like about this book was that part of the Sioux history that I have not read before, their life once confined to reservations. While the book did deal with the tribe's history before the end of hostilities and included the incidents of Sand Creek, Fetterman's Ambush, Little Big Horn, and Wounded Knee, this history has been treated with greater depth and detail in other works. This earlier history, however, did set the stage for the tragedy of reservation life and the degradation of the Sioux culture. This part of Indian history can easily provoke discussion and debate and this part of the book is what really saved it for me. I can understand the harsh treatment of Indians in the 19th century when memories of the hostilities were still fresh and the participants still alive but the treatment persisted into the 20th century with no real improvement. The very idea of the need for change doesn't even seem to exist until after Neihardt's book is published and read by a few people in positions to affect change. Another sad part of our history with Native Americans.The last hundred pages of the book continue the history of reservation life but also illustrates the process of creating "Black Elk Speaks". This part of the book is about the writing of Neihardt's book and what was involved and how that book was received and when and by whom. It also discusses the controversies that the book caused for Black Elk, his family, the author, and the religious personalities on the reservation. It was in this part of the book that the endearing message of Black Elk's visions are made more understandable and how they could and would affect his people. It is possible that as a young man Black Elk may have been the impressionable victim of spiritual suggestion or maybe he was just imaginative. It is also possible that what he reported to Neihardt was all true though Neihardt's mystical sympathies hardly made him an objective reporter. Nevertheless, the visions of Black Elk were published and they eventually started something of an Indian religious renaissance following WWII. So while I can't say this book was one of my favorites it was worth reading and maybe others will enjoy it more than I did. (le

This is an outstanding book! Black Elk participated in many events that are part of the mythos of the American West and the "idea" of America. He had a long life with some great moments, tragedy, hardship, and poverty through which he passed informed by his own visions, strong spirit and concern for the Lakota people in the modern world. I was impressed by Joe Jackson's research and his ability to tell the story, reveal little known and important elements, while not getting lost in extraneous sidelines.

Native American spiritually and eye witness to history.

An incredibly nuanced, detailed, well-documented, balanced and beautifully written biography of an extraordinary human being.
