The adequacy of the models, their validation and the relationship between model and the physical entity it represents are also examined. There are now chapters devoted entirely to isolation coordination and protection, reflecting the revolution that metal oxide surge arresters have caused in the power industry. Features additional and more complete illustrative material--figures, diagrams and worked examples. An entirely new chapter of case studies demonstrates modeling and computational techniques as they have been applied by engineers to specific problems.

About the Author

Dr. Allan Greenwood is presently Philip Sporn Professor of Engineering at Rensselaer, the oldest engineering school in North America. His professional career, which started with a B.T.-H. apprenticeship in 1940, has been spent about equally in industry and university environments. His particular interests are in power switching equipment and the interactions of such equipment with power systems. He was one of the small team that developed the first high power vacuum interrupters for the General Electric Co. (USA) in the 1950s and has been involved with this technology ever since. He holds many patents and has published widely on this subject. He is the author of Electrical Transients in Power Systems (John Wiley & Sons, 2nd edn, 1991). Dr. Greenwood is a life Fellow of the IEEE, an Attwood Associate of CIGRE and a former Visiting Fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge.

I am currently taking a class with this book, and I am not a fan. There are very few examples, and when he does us them, they tend to demonstrate lots of different concepts at once. In addition to that, the author has several irritating tendencies. He likes to constantly refer you to other parts of the book, and he likes to combine current and voltage plots into the same figure without clearly labeling them. The Wiley India version is a cheap alternative to the hard back, and a great deal in terms of price. If I were an instructor, I would take a look at the IEEE book on the subject before I used this book. Either that or I would use this in conjunction with MATLAB's Simulink or a program like EMTP-RV.

A classic in the electrical engineering area. Nice price and fast shipment !

The book is magnificent and so beautifully written. It is NOT for beginners in any case. Greenwood sometimes omits some details and you will spend a great of time understanding all the concepts in the book. This is a must have for power engineers.

Great!!! It is a second edition book. I was expecting a first edition book.

This book presents the complex subject of power system transients in a clear and easy to follow manor with a lot of examples. It's a bummer that this book is so expensive, but it is indeed worth the price (How much is having an understanding of exactly what is going on during non-steady-state conditions worth to you?). These concepts can also be applied to the analysis of other circuits (i.e. switching transients in power electronics circuits).

This book is a "must have" for anyone who is studying Electrical Transients. Easy to follow. Definitely worth the price.
