Great introduction to Malcolm X for young readers. I'd recommend it for grades three and up. Read it to my fifth graders, and they generally understood his beliefs and how his impact on the Civil Rights Movement. Myers doesn't leave out any of the controversy and gives readers the truth in an accessible way. We had several discussions about whether violence is necessary, how leaders can inspire people and how leaders can change - all still very relevant issues.
My son and I discussed the civil rights movement at length and when his teacher wanted the class to do a report on a civil rights activist, I wanted him to go beyond the standard MLK. So since he is a mature 12yr old, I read the other reviews and took a chance on introducing him to the more complex character of Malcolm X. My son is not a big reader but this one he couldn't put down. It also gave us alot to talk about in ref to evolving as a person. Changing opinions and positions and what are the costs involved with that. I strongly recommend this book.
This was purchased for my son's 7th grade English class. It was a good quality product and a good grade level read for my son.
THis is a good book for adolescent readers. I enjoyed it however it is meant for young adults. It lacks the detail you would find in an autobiography or a biography written for adult readers. However, very good in givingthe history and general information of this man and the happenings of the era.

Bought this as a present for a friends daughter. It was enjoyed over spring break. The book used nice pictures and easy to understand wordings.
This is another book brought so that my boy could finish summer reading homework.The book was so clear,and percised that when I asked Tajudeen what was the book about he gave a shock to his complete understanding of what he read so much that I ead the book also.it was awesome no doubt.
