This is a good book for the price but the title is a little misleading. Let me clarify that this is not a bullet point to do list for NBC survival. While there is a lot of good detail it's not the manual that you would expect. It's more of a high level type discussion. Still a great one to have.

Don't bother with this one. Only has a small amount of information you can find for free online, mixed in with lots of political opinions, and "history" that is not well researched.

I thought this would just be a small pamphlet on this subject matter, but holy cow...when I got it, it was over 200 pages. Very well-written and I sure will keep this manual. It covers most situations....I just thought it would have been more or less a checklist of things you need for each emergency situation for easier preps. Oh well...nice book and a big one too....4 stars I gave it.

Mostly geared toward the military, a lot of equipment he mentions isn't available to civilians, but a good starting point for learning about survival skills. Better info available on the CDC website to help civilians handle these types of emergencies. Check into it, and get a good 72 hr kit (bug out bag).

Excellent well written read. Good hands-on advice on steps one can take to help survive a nuclear, radiation, biological or chemical attack or disaster. Written to a great extent in laymen's terms and language to allow ease of understanding.

Forget all the Atkins books since Dr. Atkins died. This is the authentic, will work if you follow the rules, Atkins Diet. I've been following Atkins for almost 15 years. It is the Holy Grail.

LOVE THIS DIET...I recall doing this diet in my 20s (I am 45 years young) and I forgot all about it til I was getting DEPRESSED do to gaining 40lbs which I researched different diets and a lot of KETO posting was on Instagram...I did a google search on Keto and guess what popped up??? ATKINS...YAY....I started at 214.2 and I am now 191.6...its been slow but I am HAPPY!

The transition away from simple carbohydrates/sugar is a very serious and worthwhile withdrawal process. Done properly with no cheating, you can get through the Withdrawal in about 5 days give or take. Then your body will begin a healing process. It is amazing. Greens and Proteins with High Natural Saturated fat content is all you need. You'll never over eat when living when you finally reject all simple carbs and sugars. Yeah, that means rejecting fruit too which is mostly destructive sugar and trace amounts of nutrient value. Paleo, South Beach, and LCHF are other excellent plans you might consider.

I did this diet 13 years ago without ever reading the book. I succeeded in losing the unwanted pounds and kept them off for years. I moved to a different state, remodeled a house and gained a little too much weight. So, I recently ordered this book and will be following this lifestyle again. This time I've read the original book and have a whole new perspective on Atkins. Unfortunately, the information on line has drastically changed everything Dr. Atkins originally stated in this program. The original Atkins program must be followed from this edition and results will happen.

Low carbohydrate and ketogenic diet books are all the rage today, but that wasn't exactly so back in the seventies and eighties. Dr. Atkins changed that almost single-handedly with his diet plan.If you've read the newer books by Atkins (Dr. Atkins' NEW Diet Revolution), you'll notice immediately when reading this version that he wasn't holding back as much when he originally wrote this book. He essentially stated repeatedly that people can eat as much as they like as long as it was primarily meat and fat. He still allowed for modest salad intake, even during induction. He also placed more emphasis on protein in his later books instead of just removing carbohydrates and eating fat.I don't know if his beliefs changed or if he felt he had to change his position to conform to the mainstream, but either way, it was a change.

Reading this book shows how much the current Atkins has been changed from the original. It may not be fair to assume motivations, but it is clear that Atkins Corp could not sell all those products while still promoting this original plan. I adopted the 1 week, biologically zero carb plan, after dong low carb informally, and it really kick started my stalled weight loss.

This is the original that started it all. I first bought this book in the 70's and lost 30 lbs by following what was in this book. I find for me a carb free diet is the best diet to go on to lose the extra weight. You can eat as much as you need to satisfy hunger from the list of foods you are allowed. And the Ketostix make it fun to keep track of your level of ketosis. I have NEVER suffered ill effects from this diet and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to lose the extra weight.

There are countless LCHF books on the market today, but I keep going back to the original Atkins. It's truly a no-fail diet when followed correctly. I read it in the late '70's and tried this strange new way of eating... LOVED it! I'd since lost my old copy of the book and was glad to find it on Amazon. The newer versions are also good, but there have been changes that aren't as tried-and-true as Dr. Atkins' original work. One word of caution, though: you'll probably have to google a number of the ingredients in his recipe section, because some of that stuff isn't made any more!

It motivated me to practice everyday or nearly everyday. Regarding other more noticeable changes in my life, which was the primary reason I purchased this book, well....nothing so far. It is a good introduction to self-hypnosis, but I will look elsewhere for some more depth and exercises that have more impact.

Without delving into personal information, this is just exactly what I needed and was looking for. Serendipitous. This is an excellent fast paced read. Think it took a little over three hours. I wanted a break from the World War Two stories I’ve been devouring and wanted a break. This was it. The lead character, Johnny Delarosa is a PI in Port City. He’s a current assignment to find and free, if possible, Katie Pitts. Through a bit of intrigue and luck, he frees the girl and turns over the abductors to the local authorities. Katie is a looker with a nasty little temper that Johnny can appreciate. See, he let’s her dish a little Western Justice to her captors before they leave. With the job done, he doubts he’ll ever see again, even though he has some lurid thoughts of his own. She is a looker. Next up, Claire Dixon. If you think Katie is hot, you ain’t seen nothing yet. While the book cover catches her essence, it doesn’t do her justice, not the way Stever describes her. Think a young Anne Margaret and you won’t be far off. She plops $20K on the table and asks Johnny to find a missing, are you ready for this, $2 million dollars from thirty years ago. The only clues she will provide him are two names, Scarazzini and Carlo Bocci. He knows the first name but not the second. Not much to go on is it? The last clue she gives him in an off the hand remark, is-be careful. That alone should have triggered his radar, but if he can find the lost money, he will be rewarded with another one hundred and eighty thousand. Not a bad pay day if it happens. Johnny should have heeded her warning and his instincts. What he uncovers will lead to, his car being vandalized, he and his partner’s bar being fire bombed and the untimely death of five people. Oh, and remember Katie Pitts? Well, she winds up going to work for Johnny and helping him track down the cash. I enjoyed the way the book was put together which is what makes it a fast read. Short hard chapters that will keep you turning the pages or flicking your screen. I did feel the last couple of chapters went on a bit too long and came across as filler. Overall, this is great, action packed story! Solid four stars!

This book does remind me of a modern day version of 1930’s classic detective fiction. There was the red-headed Veronica Lake-esque sexy lady who comes into the one-time detective turned PI’s office and makes him an offer he can’t refuse. Help her find her missing two million. Of course the mob is involved and he can’t really trust her to do what he says or to try and keep herself safe. I mean, that is totally the way the story goes.But Johnny, even though he lives in the 21st century, is not a master of the technological aspects of it. Then in walks his savior…. a blond bombshell in the image of what I image is Jean Harlow. She is sweet, naive master PI in the making. And what she lacks with her innocent facade, she makes up for in computer expertise.This story was a really fun ride and I invite everyone to take a gander at it. It is Detective Fiction of Yesteryear made new.I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

Scarlet Fever is a story that could be out of the 50s, featuring a private investigator, beautiful women, and or course, criminal activity.You can't really take it too serious, because of the almost light-hearted way it is composed and written. The author does a great job of making it an enjoyable read through the expected elements, yet gives the reader quite a bit of unexpected action.I really enjoyed this, it was well-written and achieved what I perceive as the author's intent and style.

I highly recommend Scarlet Fever! David Stever created a page-turner of a story. A modern take on the hard-boiled private eye novels of the past, with enough twists and turns to keep me hooked all the way through. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

If all children, as a part of their education, would read all of these History of the World books, it would go a long way toward peace - resisting the use of war to get one's way in the world. The writer simply records events as they happened and how national and world leaders reacted to the events.The writer did not record the events as they are recorded every where else - to promote the legitimacy of the wars and the actions in the wars by the writer's country.

I bought volume 2 to go along with cycle 2 (Classical Conversations) & fell in love with the way the story is told. It catches and keeps your attention. It is not too difficult to read yet it kept me (mom) wanting to read more and more.....so naturally, we are buying volumes 3 and 4 to go along with cycle 3 for next year!!!

We use this "History for the Classical Child" series along with our homeschooling as our end of the day reward. We love the storylines within, the mythology, and we really love the inclusion of Biblical history. Very enjoyable reading, with wonderful educational elements. I highly recommend this series. It is history presented in a very wonderful way.

My kids love The Story of the World. History has gone from boring facts in their mind to a complex and interwoven story that they are constantly referring back to in other areas of their life.

Great way to get kids to love history. My 11-year old who only reads graphic novels can't put it down. We have all 4 and they are all very well written. I love that it doesn't just cover western civilization but also all the major ones around the world and tells the story in roughly chronological order.

I love this history series! This is our second year using these books full time for history. I use it with my 8 year old son. My 14 year old also joins in and accompanies us during our review questions on top of his history curriculum. Great information and great presentation. I've used these in conjunction with the activity books. It's an organized way to learn history and is presented in a way that a wide range of ages can appreciate - yes even myself, the 37 year old mom who teaches the curriculum! The history is thorough but broken down enough and realistically read daily. Love!

Being a really late entrant to the Traveller universe this book is actually my first introduction to what the setting is like. That and I was too late to get a copy of "Behind the Claw" (the conventional setting for Traveller campaigns.)The material devoted to the "Behind the Claw" sector hints at a highly contested section of space divided by three different human empires, plagued by the chaotic Vagrr corsairs as well as anyone devious enough to put together a pirate crew. Throw in a dash of political intrigue and you instantly want to play in that sector!If "Rim of Fire" suffers anything it's that it isn't "Behind the Claw."Indeed, the assumptions are quite the contrary. The Sol Sector is decidedly more developed and civilized, lacking the rough hewn frontier feel hinted at in "Behind the Claw." Nearly every system has decent port facilities and there's nothing for the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service to explore. (Buying a Starship should be NO problem what with nearly every starport housing a shipyard!)What "Rim of Fire" does offer is an epic battle between two dominant races of Humaniti, the displaced Vilani and the descendents of the birth-world of the galaxy, Terra. Though the Confederation is definitely billed as the setting heavies, it's not hard to develop some sympathy, especially since the Imperial side is in some cases equally culpable for Sector unrest.Also, the sector lies between the worlds of the Aslan and Hiver Empire, both whom provided added tension and potential.The riddle of the Ancients doesn't seem to have quite the weight that it does in the original setting, and their artifacts and influence seem to be quite sparse, traded instead for worlds struggling with old resentments and a high degree of political intrigue.And whatever you do, don't turn your back on the Vegans. Encompassed within the sector, this race of previously oppressed aliens has broken the shackles of slavery and technologically surpassed their neighbors. (It's a good thing they're so "friendly.")By itself, "Rim of Fire" is a rather compelling setting. You're less likely to be attacked outright by pirates or aliens, but don't rule the possibility out! Cutting along the spinward side of the sector is a simmering interstellar border along which the Xth Interstellar War could break at any unsuspecting moment. Indeed the fires from the previous conflict are still smoldering on many worlds.In essence, "Rim of Fire" offers an intriguing alternative setting for the Traveller universe without sacrificing too many of the conventions one would expect. There is plenty of room in this setting for being heroic or devious. And there are some rather quaint and interesting worlds to visit.
