This wonderful book captures your eye and imagination with is its lighthearted, colorful illustrations, creative content titles and AMAZING and WEIRD animal facts!! The format is a 'stroke of genius.' First presenting an amazing, weird fact to peak the child's interest, then following it up with "more about" the animal. After reading about one animal you're excited to turn the page to learn more amazing facts. A perfect book for adults to read to children or for older children to enjoy on their own. I highly recommend it!
My folks and I were captivated as we read with delight the authors clever captions and witty humor about wacky and amazing animal facts! The illustrations were colorful and spot on! Very fun book, easy read. Ideal for all ages. As a teacher, I feel my students will not only marvel about wacky things animals do, but learn in the process, will laugh, and have fun with it too! Author Tricia Martineau Wagner has joined forces with illustrator Carles Ballesteros to create a delightful book subtitled “weird & amazing animal facts!â€Each animal is numbered one through 50 and page begins with a snappy and memorable headline, then a short paragraph about the special nature of the animal. The page concludes with a paragraph of additional information called “More About _____†For example for llamas (No 49) you learn “A llama’s spit is foul smelling because they are ruminant animals, which means they have a four-compartment stomach to digest their food. The food ferments, or goes through a chemical change, then the llama vomits and chews the food again.†(Page 101) Readers will find these facts memorable and fascinating. Each animal gets a fully illustrated two page spread with one paragraph about the wacky thing and one paragraph with more general information about the animal.With attractive cartoon-like illustrations and very interesting traits high-lighted, this is a good pick for curious kids. The illustrations may be a bit too cartoonized for kids to be able to recognize the real animal from these illustrations, but every tidbit shared is definitely memorable.Notes on content: Some of the wacky things include gross factor tidbits like vomiting and shooting blood as defense mechanisms.

The first paragraph about each animal will capture a child’s attention, and then the second paragraph follows with more interesting facts about the animal. The format makes a great book for a child to read alone or for an adult to read to them, either by reading just a few pages or the whole book in a sitting. I bought this book for my nephew who, like most kids, loves animals. Although it's marketed as a children's book I thoroughly enjoyed learning about all the fun and unique animal facts! I showed the book to several co-workers who ended up buying it for their kids. The comment from one was this book is "super cute" and "can't wait to get for my kids". The illustrations are terrific and mean that even younger kids than the recommended age are interested in the book and learning.
Bought this for my 7 yr old nephew. He loved it! I actually enjoyed it as well.
