There was a lot of hype around this book but I found it somewhat disappointing. To me it came across more as group of stories and experiences rather than in depth look at business. Don;t get me wrong, the stories are interesting and relevant but not as in depth as I was lead to believe from the reviews.I think that I would have liked to have seen a bit more of the thinking behind the whole business development and what went on in the minds of the authors. They tell their story with plenty of emotion and maybe that is what the business success has been. Maybe, I would have been more satisfied with a third party telling the story and making the observations rather than the founders? I can't quite put my finger on exactly what is missing for me with this book.I think it is still an interesting read and well worthwhile to understand the process that the writers have gone through in developing their business and making it a success. There is certainly something that you can learn from that.In summary, to me this book is more a story than something on business development. That doesn't make it any less worthwhile but it was not quite to the level I was personally expecting.

This book is different. It's about being different, too. If you want a book that boldly tells you how to achieve business success you won't find it here, but it doesn't try to be that book. There are a lot of books like that already. The entire story about Lance and Ido are how they didn't fall into the trap of being what everybody else tries. They try different things.They judged their investors based on the football club they supported. Despite supporting the wrong club, that's pretty great to read about.When starting a business you need to give yourself permission to be unique and to sometimes be irrational. This book helps you come to terms with the ridiculous endeavor of starting a business that is most likely going to fail. They have some good principles that are delivered well and have the anecdotes to back them up.I have never smiled so much through a book in the business category as I did here. It isn't because it's funny (it is, sometimes) but because it made me feel good. A few months ago I read Richard Branson's autobiography, and can safely say that they may shoot for being the Richard Branson in beauty products. Their book outdoes his in terms of motivating and inspiring the reader to commit to doing their own thing, to walk their own path, to do their own good.

I feel like they glossed over the real work and difficulties but there is a lot of real experience on display. This is a great read for any entrepreneur.

First off, Ido and Lance are absolutely hysterical!!! It felt like I was having a conversation with them instead of just reading facts. They are humble, personable, and genuine; I couldn't put the book down. I learned a lot as a future entrepreneur and current marketing student at a university.It was easy to read the entire book in a matter of a couple days. Each chapter was filled with anecdotes that showed who Ido and Lance are as people and successful business leaders of sustainability. Must read!!!

As different as their brand, this book presents a running conversation between the authors about their experience quickly building a successful brand. It was as though I was being told a story with experiential wisdom sewn throughout.I connected with the author's genuine care for their customers and candor regarding their mistakes. I close this book inspired to build my dream well, craft my brand boldly and effectively get big fast.

For anyone whose business is not yet a world-wide brand, this book is a stunning wake-up call. Read it and see where a no-limits mentality and the right business partner can get you. From advising how to treat clients and how to plan your trade show exhibits to illustrating how to handle a humiliatingly massive recall of products in an ethical way that respects the client, this is a manual for entrepreneurs that we can all learn from. Full of life lessons. Read it.

I used this book to educate myself more fully before meeting with some folks about diversity and found the book well-written, easy to understand because of great examples, and the information was "real" and up-to-date.

Great book!

Dr. Thiederman cuts to the heart of the "real" diversity issues and gives both intellectual and real world help and resources. The book covers all the essential information and provides resources for group and individual learning - both personal and in the workplace.

This book is a required reading for the diversity course I am taking. It is exactly what I was looking for and I received it quickly.

It's a sad commentary on our society that we move from one fad idea to another while clinging to age old problems.I purchase this book because it describes real issues I face in my organization. Whether the book offers any meaningful solutions remains to be seen. It may be an HR book written for HR folks; a group as biased as any I have ever seen!

About the Author

Michael Kearney, M.D., has spent over 25 years working as a physician in end-of-life care. He trained and worked at St. Christopher's Hospice in London with Dame Cicely Saunders, the founder of the modern hospice movement, and subsequently worked for many years as Medical Director of Our Lady's Hospice in Dublin, and later with Professor Balfour Mount at McGill University in Montreal. He is currently a Medical Director of the Palliative Care Service at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and an Associate Medical Director at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care, also in Santa Barbara.
