MY BEST FRIEND THE BILLIONAIRE is the first book in a new series so it is a standalone read with a very HEA. Naturally it is set in the lovely New Zealand. OMG I loved this book. Like all her rest, Ms. Woods sucks you right into the story in the first paragraph and you cannot stop until you have finished the book. This series has it all. These adults are the siblings to the King brothers. Of course they are billionaires through family fortunes but they are not the typical billionaire type guys. They don't flaunt their wealth, don't have private jets, etc. They use their money to help others. The King brothers make equipment for children's hospitals. The siblings are using their money to help animals have a better life. This story is about Hal. He is almost 30, a vet, he is part owner in a sanctuary for animals. they take care of and treat abused and abandoned animals as well as family pets. The whole compound is set up to take care of animals on every level. They even have their own hotel. It is definitely a place of paradise for these animals.All the siblings play a role and they all get along and work together. Hal is one terrific hero. I'm sure I am in love!! He is 6'3", big, strong, smart, compassionate and sexy as heck. He is known as The Dog Whisperer as well as a notorious ladies' man. He has had fun growing up and he is not ashamed of his past or make excuses for it. He recently broke up with his latest live-in. She is a vet nurse at the facility. Most of his friends and co-workers don't really like her. He thought that would be the end of it. Silly men, they just don't realize how vicious a woman that thinks she has her hands on a fortune will respond to having all her dreams shot down.Hal and Izzy have been best friends for over 18 years. She knows him better than anyone and knows she can love him in secret but it would never last in real life. After loving her from afar he has had enough and decides to go after her as his forever love and live HEA. Silly man, things are never that easy. He has no idea the secrets that Izzy is hiding and what it will take to get her to give them up.This story is so good. I started reading as soon as it downloaded and I didn't stop reading (except for a couple of very necessary times). There is just no place to stop. The story moves fast and you just have to see what is going to happen next. I LOVED the facility they built and wish every country could have a few billionaires that would go together and take care of all the stray animals. It is just so much fun to think about. Makes you want to hop on a plane, fly to New Zealand, go to this place and ask for a job. It really makes you want to get to know these great people and be a part of the lives. I am hoping that the next book will be about Noah. I want to see him get his HEA. maybe a widow with two or three kids would be nice. He already has lots of dogs he just needs a family to go with them. This is a great story, don't pass it up. Lovely read and I HIGHLY recommend it. I adore the concept of this new series! It focuses on the grown-up children of the characters from the author's “Three Kings†trilogy. The Three Kings were very nice, warm-hearted billionaire brothers who were devoted to giving back to charities. Their 6 or so kids are now grown up and run a nonprofit animal rescue center and veterinary clinic in New Zealand. A few of the billionaire second generation are veterinarians, one is the IT director, and one is the HR director at the business. Hal is an intelligent, tall, gorgeous veterinarian who does not act like he is rich. He just works hard saving cute animals, has a really nice apartment, and goes out to nice restaurants more than the average person. Izzy (Isabelle) is a smart, capable veterinarian who has been Hal's best friend since grade school. Hal has secretly been in love with Izzy, but her brother warned him away from her in high school. Izzy has secretly been hiding feelings for Hal and can’t believe that he would ever want to date her, who has burn scars on her abdomen and shoulder. Can they overcome the impediments to their love? The pacing of their growing relationship was really great. I also love the extra dash of suspense when they rescued an abused dog from a dangerous situation (this happened very early on) as well as the suspense from another source. In addition, the love scenes were wonderfully intimate and spicy. Izzy and Hal have great chemistry, and they communicate well. I also really like the secondary characters who will have their own books later. Lastly, the Noah's Ark business is located on gorgeous land overlooking the ocean; the land and the adorable rescued pets there are lovingly described. I was on the fence about whether I should give this one 4 or 5 stars. I quite enjoyed it, but I did not like a couple of details in the book, so I settled on 4 stars. Firstly, the heroine Izzy was understandably self-conscious and had trust issues, but for me I did not like how long it took her to overcome them. Second, the first person perspective alternating between the pair of main characters worked well. It felt fresh and not awkward. However, I would have preferred alternating third person perspective. I enjoyed this book, and I recommend it to anyone who likes first-person contemporary romances. I am really looking forward to the rest of the series!
This reader lost interest and returned this book after a few chapters. Also, the reader got tired of the "F" bombs that probably happen in life but they are not necessary in such quantity in a story. A few are probably okay but not this often. The characters in the book were developed as billionaires and should have been acting so low life's.
I can’t say enough how much I loved this book! The three wise men series was so good and seeing that series extend into the sons of the three Kings was such a special surprise. This book was incredible. You really get a sense of the long standing friendship between Hal and Izzy, and a sense of strong family ties with Albie and Leon and Hal. And the setting of the animal rescue center is such a fresh and interesting concept. I’m really hoping we get to see books for lots of the characters in the future!
I read the Three Wise Men series and then immediately continued with this book. I loved all of the stories! This was a delightful, romantic and heartwarming story, steamy too. I liked the drama (but not too much drama) and the decisions made by Hal at the end of this story. I haven't read many stories with animals, so the rescue center was a refreshing setting for me. Looking forward to the rest of the stories in this great new series!
Not only was I drawn in to the story from the start, but I also loved the characters too. This was a great start to a new series, the next generation in the Three Wise Men world. There were lots of sexy times, some anger, some drama, and everything in between- including some animals! There's even a psycho ex-girlfriend. I saw the spark of the next story, and I look forward to reading that book too. As always, Serenity Woods delivers a beautiful story.
